Dover Artificial Lift’s overshot sockets are particularly useful for retrieving hardened couplings, which resist capture by ordinary wickered slips.
The overshot sockets employ a lower slip unit that opens as it passes over the coupling, then closes below the coupling to firmly grip the rod string. A conventional set of slips in the upper portion of the socket body catches rod body breaks in the normal manner.
Oversize sockets are available in sizes ranging from 1 ¾” to 3” for regular tubing and in three larger sizes for oversize tubing. While the oversize units were originally designed specifically for fishing couplings too large for regular sockets, many operators now use them as a general-purpose fishing tool.
NOTE: This practice creates a greater risk of socket failure or damage and as a consequence, the operator must assume responsibility for failure.
